McCain and His New Buddy Mittby Valorie Delp | More from this Blogger 19 Jul 2008 06:06 AM
Strange Bedfellows? It may seem strange to have fought so bitterly during the primaries and then to be so chummy now. As bystanders noted during the social gathering--they truly seemed to have buried the hatchet. However, they wouldn't be the first two unlikely running mates. Consider Lyndon B. Johnson and JFK and then Bush Sr. and Ronald Reagan. While the rest of us were using the term Reaganomics--Bush Sr. referred to them as "voodoo economics" during their primaries. An Argument for Mitt Mitt Romney is seen as someone who holds the keys to Michigan which is a swing state. McCain has said that he doesn't believe location is as important now in this day and age but that he would rather a running mate who is in agreement with his policies and is capable of leading the nation as President should the need arise. Does Mitt fill this bill? The reality is though, that Mitt may well help swing that conservative vote that McCain is having a hard time getting. The Veepstakes This election's campaigns have been notoriously tight lipped about possible running mates. Names have been tossed in and out of the ring--but nothing comes to the forefront as the likely candidate. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll know before the National Conventions in late August (Democratic) and early September (Republican) or if we'll even have an inkling.
